About Train4Rail

Over time, the mainstream education system has reduced the availability of learning practical skills, in favour of academic subjects. Without our younger generations being trained in these core skills, we are left wondering ‘How will the UK get back on track to preserve our Heritage Railways in the future?

Enter Train4Rail, a group experienced in the engineering and rail industries, with the mission to highlight and overcome key challenges faced by many organisations by encouraging the education of these core skills.

Train4Rail is laying the tracks for generations of young people who struggle with academic school but thrive in practical workshops. By teaching them essential mechanical engineering skills that UK industry is desperate for and collaborating with Heritage Railways, existing apprenticeship schemes, rail academies and railway engineering clubs, Train4Rail is producing our next generation of mechanical engineers.

Peter Dickson, CEO of Train4Rail - A number of our youngsters, after learning the basics of engineering at a club, have gone on to gain good engineering apprenticeships with local companies.

Train4Rail is laying the tracks for younger generations to get involved in engineering-led ventures, such as modern engineering clubs and Heritage Railways, many of whom struggle to attract younger people. Peter Dickson, CEO of Train4Rail, is involved in such groups.

Although technology continues to advance, many aspects of industry and infrastructure rely on these core skills. With the diminishing number of mechanical engineers in the UK, from manufacturing and maintenance backgrounds, it is essential to provide such opportunities to younger generations to preserve and pass down the engineering know-how.

By collaborating with Heritage Railways, existing apprenticeship schemes and rail academies; coupled with the shining examples of young engagement such as the Downs Light Railway, Peter’s Railway and many model engineering clubs, this goal can be reached.
